SAN MARINO

St. Martin, from the island of Rab, was a sculptor and stonecutter. According to a legend from the start of the 4th century, he fled to Italy amid religious persecution. It was there, on the Monte Titano hill, that he built a chapel that would become the center of the future city and state of San Marino, named after him, as its founder. San Marino is the oldest and third smallest European country, founded back in 301. It is surrounded, on all sides, by Italian territory. The country of San Marino has issued post stamps in honor of Marino from Rab[1].
