We
profoundly regret the untimely death of Professor Walter J. Reeve, the first
editor of the Journal of Croatian Studies, who died on June 9, 1958 at
the age of 43.
He was an
American of English-Croatian origin, his mother having come from the family
Hadjijanec, Privlaka, Vinkovci. Croatia. From his mother he inherited a sincere
love for Croatia, the land of her ancestors.
Professor
Reeve was an assistant professor of history at the Fordham University School of
Education, a member of the Medieval Academy of America and the American
Catholic Historical Association. He was a founding member of the Croatian
Academy of America and its president or vice-president for several years.
He was the
first editor of the Journal of Croatian Studies and unfortunately did
not live to see the appearance of its first volume which he had planned and
initiated.
The
Croatian Academy of America and the Journal of Croatian Studies will
cherish the memory of Professor Walter J. Reeve forever.
