Vjekoslav Žugaj was born in
Nova Gradiška in 1945. He
attended elementary school and high
school there. He graduated from the
teacher training college in Zagreb and
worked as a teacher for many years. In
1980 he started working in the
National Museum of Nova
Gradiška and remained there
until 1990 as the head of the
historical collection. During that time
he published many specialised
studies on the history of Nova
Gradiška and Stara Gradiška.
At the time of the first democratic elections he became a Member of Parliament of the Republic of Croatia and he was the first President of the Club of Representatives of the Croatian Social-Liberal Party. |
During the war he was the editor of the newspaper "Novogradiški glasnik" (Newspaper of Nova Gradiška) and a reporter for Croatian television. He was the author of several documentary films on the war in Western Slavonia.
From 1992 he gathered material on the War for Independence in the Croatian Information Centre in Zagreb and since 1995 he has been working as a journalist-editor of the "Reports from the Croatian Parliament".
